John O' Connor, 2021-23 Attorney General of Oklahoma

John O’Connor served as Attorney General of Oklahoma from 2021 to 2023.  He has decades of experience as a successful attorney, with the highest peer ratings for competence and ethics.  In April 2018, then-President Trump nominated O’Connor to serve as a U.S. District Judge.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts in political science from Oklahoma State University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa College of Law.  He was President of the Rotary Club of Tulsa and awarded a Rotary International Fellowship to study at a German university.

“High performing students, up and down the economic ladder, tell us whether we have high performing schools and administrators.  Social justice means our children receive a great education NOW.  Then they will have great opportunities.  Our Tulsa Public Schools’ Board of Education has not met the challenge.  88% of our students do not meet proficiency standards!  Parents, schools and our community must partner to educate our children.  We must welcome parents who peacefully advocate for their children at school board meetings.  Let’s elevate citizens to the School Board who want to successfully educate our children in the basics and are not trying to compete with Hollywood for the most shocking and weird school culture.”

Glen Mulready, Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner

Glen Mulready has served as the Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner since 2019. In 2010, he successfully ran for state representative and quickly became the point person for the House of Representatives on insurance issues and was appointed chairman of the Insurance Committee after the 2014 elections. In this role, Mulready passed legislation that resulted in more insurance companies offering services in the state, and he reformed the state employee insurance program to save Oklahoma millions of dollars a year while also saving thousands of dollars for those families.

“As a former School Board member and having served on numerous boards and committees, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Shepherds Fold Ranch Christian summer camp, and Crime Commission, I see how lives can be impacted by teachers and mentors that treat each child as a unique and special person.  The top-down policies of the Tulsa Schools administration has not been effective at serving those students with special needs.  We need board members who will examine the programs and resources meant to support these students.”

Vic Regalado, Tulsa County Sheriff

Sheriff Regalado began his law enforcement career in 1994 with the Tulsa Police Department. Regalado worked a variety of assignments during his twenty-three year career and retired as a Sgt. and Supervisor of the department's Organized Gang unit. Regalado was elected Sheriff of Tulsa County in 2016 and is responsible for maintaining Law and Order within the borders of Tulsa County and commands a full-service Law Enforcement agency of over 650 personnel that includes Detention, Court Services and Operational Divisions.

“Teachers can be one of the most influential people in a person’s life. I would not be in law enforcement today had it not been for the encouragement and guidance of teachers in my life. It is a fact that a child who cannot read or write is much more likely to be arrested or imprisoned than a child who can. Teachers can break this cycle if we give them back control of their classrooms and get back to the basics of reading, writing and math. Tulsa Public Schools has failed in this endeavor. Hopefully with new leadership and new policies teachers will be allowed to teach our children how to think and not what to think."

Mike Mazzei, 2018-19 State Secretary of Budget

"Drastic measures need to be adopted and fundamental transformation needs to be pursued.  School board elections are right around the corner. Hopefully, very important conversations about an immediate course correction are taking center stage, and the next group of TPS leaders will make 2024 the year of great changes that prepare our kids and grandkids for a bright future."

Charles Sublett, 2019-22 Chair, GRDA Board of Directors

Charles Sublett was appointed to the GRDA Board in November 2019 by Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University in 1968 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma in 1975. He has practiced law in Oklahoma for over 45 years. A military veteran, he also served five years on active duty with the United States Air Force and 20-plus years in the reserves. He also served for many years on the board of the South Grand Lake Regional Airport.

“We are losing generations of children to illiteracy in our public schools. Students who are unable to read and write lack the skills needed for critical thinking. How do we build the self-esteem of the next generation, if they cannot even count back change? Our public schools must get back to the basics. Repeating the failed policies that put TPS at the bottom of the US school systems is unconscionable.”

"April 2 is fast approaching to make significant advances in TPS by electing qualified leadership to improve student achievement.

Independent voices who prioritize the classroom and work toward a diverse agenda of reform are needed to advance positive outcomes.

As the largest school district in the state, we can do better, and we must. . . for the future success of our children."
